Otisco is sometimes called two lakes in one. This is due to the causeway that separates the lower 1/3 of the Otisco Lake from the upper portion.
The northern portion of the lake has an average depth of 34 clear feet. To access this open portion of the lake, boaters have to steer through the opening in the causeway and head north.
Enjoy the northern β of the lake by pontoon or speed boat. Let the waves lull you, the sun warm you, and the views cheer you. Donβt forget your camera, because you wonβt want to forget how the sunlight hits these hills and rolls across the water!
I know you'll want to make sure to spend some time on the water while you visit Otisco Lake.

Chances are really rather excellent you'll find one or more boating adventures to add to your itinerary!
Sometimes called "the pond," the lower portion of the Otisco Lake is significantly different from the upper portion in depth, temperature, and flora and fauna.
Stafford Creek empties into the lower portion of Otisco Lake, carrying silt and sediment off the hillsides from rainstorm runoff. However, the causeway acts as a barrier, preventing much of this sediment to flush out into the northern portion of the lake.
As a result, the southern portion of Otisco Lake is more like a pond, with an average depth of 6 feet, and murky waters where fish like to hide among the aquatic plants.
This portion of the lake is better for fishing boats and paddling, so if you enjoy fishing, join locals and visitors alike casting in the pond for trout, alewives, and other freshwater fish.
