Boating Honeoye Lake

Why boat on Honeoye Lake?

Rent or trailer your own boat to Honeoye Lake for an enjoyable day of leaving the crowds behind.

At only 4.5 miles long and minimal development along its shore, Honeoye Lake draws a certain crowd: those that want to have fun and get away, but don't want the hassle of busy tourist areas.

Unlike its neighbor, Canadice, which along with its neighbor Hemlock Lake, is a protected water source for the city of Rochester. Boating is prohibited on those lakes with an engine larger than 10 horse power. But not so on Honeoye Lake.

Nevertheless, you'll find Honeoye Lake just isn't a major boating metropolis. But there's nothing wrong with that...nothing at all.

Will you meet other boaters? Yes, and it has a vacation-y feel. But it's a little more low-key than some of the other lakes. Ok, a lot more low key.

Bring your fishing pole...

If you are an avid fisher-person, or have thought about trying to fish from your boat, Honeoye Lake is THE place to do so in the Finger Lakes Region of New York.

Honeoye Lake has a booming population of largemouth bass, which you can catch from pretty much anywhere in the lake.

Why is this, you ask? Because this lake is pretty shallow among the 11 Finger Lakes, maxing out around 30-feet-deep. Even better, it has an average depth of only 16-feet!

The end result: great fishing all year, at any spot on the lake.

This is Finger Lakes fishing you won' want to miss!

Boater Safety Classes

Beginning on January 1, 2025, all operators of motorboats in New York State require a boater safety course certification.

You can take the course in-person or online, so no matter were you live, you can get started planning for your upcoming trip to the Finger Lakes.

Once you complete your certification, you'll get a pretty cool icon to show off on your license too!

Where can I launch my motor boat on Honeoye Lake?

Honeoye Lake has two excellent launch sites if you bring your own motor boat. Read on for more info!

Honeoye Lake State Boat Launch

Maintained by New York State Department of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, the Honeoye Lake State Boat Launch is a well-kept location to launch your motor boat at the southern end of the lake.

The two metal docks are available April through October, but if you enjoy ice fishing, the park is maintained yearly for access. You'll also find waterless facilities and don't be surprised at the parking fee when you arrive.

If you want to have some kind of fishing competition, this might be you site for set-up. Check out the website for more information.
